Your Guide and Coach, Terri
Since my teenage years, I have had a fascintation with cutting things up and putting them together. My grandmother first taught me to sew as a way to build self-reliance. I loved the visits to the fabric store in search of patterns, fabrics, textures, and adornments. We would have wonderful conversations as we worked together to cut out and assemble these creations. Little did I know at the time, that my creative self was being activated.
Visual Journaling came to me by surprise. Five years ago, I took a creativity class where we focused on visual business planning. I was immediatley hooked.
Today, I offer online programs that blend visual expression with coaching inquiry.
Going Deeper Than Words
Through my work with clients and my own work as a Coach, I have found that words only take us so far. There is a silent language that reveals deeper truths of our thoughts and feelings more fluently than words. That language is imagery.
The Visual Journaler™ is an active, purposeful communication that involves using one’s inner vision to imagine what a thought, feeling, or concept would look like if it were expressed as color, shape, or image.
The act of visual expression, allows you to describe an experience – and with depth – that words cannot achieve.
You will discover new insights, solve problems in new ways, enter into a deeper appreciation of the process of your life, and exercise your creative capacities.
You will develop one of life’s most important qualities: the ability to face and move through fear, self-doubt, and the inner critic. And, find the incredible beauty of YOURSELF on the page.

Getting Started with The Visual Journaler™
When I began visual journaling, I was like a kid discovering all the different art supplies and mediums that are available! My trips to the art/craft supply stores are one of my favorite things to do when I’m looking for inspiration.
To get started using the Visual Journaler™ process, you’ll want to begin by choosing the book you’ll work in. I recommend a book that uses mixed media paper. This paper can hold a lot of water and lots of layers.
They come in different sizes and bindings. Go with what you’re drawn to – there’s no right or wrong.
Add In Some Basic Supplies...
• Companion journal for writing in
• Acrylic paints (the cheap kind works great!)
• Clear gesso
• Matte medium or glue stick
• Cheap brushes
• Collage, tape, photos, and other ephemera
• Markers, color pencils, crayons, and paint pens
• Alphabet stamps, stencils, and Staz-On stamp pads
• Baby wipes
Most frequently asked questions
No art experience is required! These programs are geared for the beginner and experienced creative alike. We are exploring our inner world rather than creating art products. A supplies list and suggestions for how to set up your space will be in the first module. Through the program modules, exercises, and videos you will be guided you through each step of the process.
Just like with writing in a journal, the amount of time you spend is really up to you. Visual journaling has become a part of my lifestyle and is something that I visit several times a week. Many participants tell me that once they experience this process they can’t wait to come back to their journal. You can work at your own pace. You may find some visual journeys come quickly while others are a bit slower. There’s no need to rush.
Many programs include Live Group Calls where we interact through Zoom. You can ask questions as well as interact with other program members. You can also share and ask questions through the discussions feature in the course platform. AND, you can add coaching to your program for deeper exploration and integration.
One of the things I’ve come to love about The Visual Journaler™ method is how private your creations are. The choices you make with color, imagery, and words are unique to your own expression. Sometimes I’m covering completely over my writing, and other times just a bit peeks out adding to the visual elements of the spread. Your journals are always your private space and those who live with you should also know that it is up to you to choose when, what, and if you share.
The Visual Journaler™ programs are designed to help you find some artful strategies to know yourself better and play with the many layers of your deeper Self. Like all art, it reveals unknown parts of ourselves to us. Although it can be therapeutic, the program is not therapy and does not replace work you would do with a therapist.
